Monastic Library
In the Franciscan Monastery of the St. Trojica in Slovenske Gorice, there is a museum monastic library. It contains more than 3,000 valuable books dating from before 1800, with the oldest going back to the 15th century. Among its treasures is the first printed book on physics, published in 1574. Another curiosity is a book with maps describing Lake Cerknica.
Only a few books have been preserved from the time of the Augustinian monks, as they took most of them upon their departure. The Franciscans, who settled here in 1854, brought many old books with them from Austrian monasteries. A significant part of the collection also comes from the former Franciscan monastery in Brežice, where the monks had been established since the 14th century. Over the centuries, the library was continuously enriched with new volumes, greatly expanding its collection. Today, it is open to the public and can be visited by pilgrims, tourists, and other guests. Visits are usually possible by prior arrangement.
